OCR: Joy Division's first album, with Martin Hannett producing, was recorded during the month of April. The band recorded sixteen songs during the "Unknown Pleasures" sessions, ten of which were selected for the album. Tony Wilson covered the recording costs and pressing costs for the first 10,000 copies. The album was well received by the press, and the first pressing sold out quickly. Two other tracks from the album's sessions, "Auto-Suggestion" and "From Safety To Where," were included on a three band compilation called "Earcom 2: Contradiction." In the second half of 1979, Joy Division toured as an opening band for the Buzzcocks. In between concerts, the band booked two ecording sessions, known as the Picadilly and Transmission sessions.
